A Girl and her Dragon
Rain beat against the great church
A girl lay in her soft bed
Her face was as white as birch
Her eyes as dark as gray lead
She feared the beasts in the night
Eyes as red as blood, they had
Great wings, they had, to alight
They could make you truly mad
So the mother had told her,
Prayers could keep them at bay
But the girl knew her sire
Was killed by one late last May
He had stolen a treasure
To keep his daughter alive
The beast had been a lesser
But of them there had been five
Her father fought their lives
The beasts all wielded fire
But all he had were two knives
And so they killed her sire
The beasts pillaged the girls' home
To find the stolen treasure
One took her sires old tome
A sight that truly galled her
One found her alone and scared
It's eyes as green as sea foam
Took the girl to its lair
It said its name was Jerome
He tried to look after her
He caught fish and deer to eat
And made her a nest of fur
The girl thought the beast was neat
She took a fondness of him
And found he hated his kind
She told him her name was Kim
And all the things on her mind
Jerome hated the others
They shouldn't have killed her dad
They stole babes from their mothers
A sight that was truly sad
Jerome said those were the kind
That gave beasts like him bad names
Knights hunted his kind like hinds
Using sharp swords and torch flames
This was all horribly true
A month after Kim was saved
Knights came, of them there were few
Jerome's blue flames the knights braved
They were there to 'save' the girl
Jerome grabbed young Kim and fled
Up to the sky with a whirl
If he had not, he'd be dead
They lived in peace for a week
Jerome found they would have none
A good home for Kim he'd seek
They flew by the setting sun
"Friend oh friend were do we fly?"
Kim asked from Jerome's scaled back
"My dear we must say good bye
The knights would make a hearth mat
Out of my royal blue hide
I have not the means to tend
For you, my time I must bide
I can no longer pretend
Kim, I now have no stone home
You would die of hunger
Because I would have to roam
I love you like a father
So I must leave you my dear
At a church across the bay
Fear not Kim, I will be near
To keep you out of harms way."
"Friend do not leave me alone!
I will miss you way too much,
I would miss my sweet Jerome
The good times we've had and such
So Kim stayed in the great church
Till' a family took her
Now Kim awoke with a lurch
Something passed in a blue blur
Her heart leaped about with joy
Her sweet Jerome had returned
He had always been her boy
Their friendship had not been burned
So the two made their retreat
Away into the night sky
Events before I will repeat
Their strong bond will never die
Rain beat against the great church
A girl lay in her soft bed
Her face was as white as birch
Her eyes as dark as gray lead
Awaited her only friend
Her royal blue sweet Jerome
For her, he said, he could tend
He had come to take her home
Upon his back Kim did climb
And away the two did fly
Jerome was no a hunted hind
Away in to the night sky
Kim loved him as a father
In a cave across the bay
He, like an only daughter
A girl and her dragon stay.
